As its closest approach, the distance between the Mars and the Earth is found to be 60 million km. When the planets are at this closest distane, how long would it take to send a radio massage from a space probe of Mars of Earth ?
(1) 5 s (2) 200 s
(3) 0.2 s (4) 20 s

speed of radio waves are considerd as same as speed of light.......

now, simple use speed distance formula to take out time

t=d/s

t=60×10^9m/3×10^8

t=200s

Given:

  • Distance between Mars and Earth =  60 x 10⁶ km = 60 x 10⁹ metre
  • Waves being sent are radio waves
  • Speed of radio waves = speed of light = 3 x 10⁸ m/sec

To find:

  • Time taken to send a radio wave between Mars and Earth

Solution:

  • We know that, Speed = Distance / Time
  • Hence, Time = Distance / Speed
  • Distance = 60 x 10⁹ metre
  • Speed = 3 x 10⁸ m/sec
  • Hence Time = 60 x 10⁹ / 3 x 10⁸
  • Time = 2 x 10² = 200 seconds

Answer:

The time taken to send a radio message between Mars and Earth will be 200 seconds. Hence option (2) is correct.
