As more marginalized voices take their place in the list of works we study in school, how should we decide which traditionally studied works to remove to make space for them?

Answer:

Decisions like this depend strongly on the emphasis the school district wishes to enhance, for the development of their students. Voices from all over the world, in various genres, expressing the spectrum of cultural values, and demonstrating the effectiveness of the written word . . . . simply cannot be sampled fairly.

This is a job for a committee.

Preferably one that argues for months and months about the selections. Where there is a British twit, an angry young man, a representative from a standardized testing service, some actual teachers, a member of the state education board, a few foreigners from Europe/Japan/South America/Russia, and an American expert who reads most of the new literature, like that woman of Terry Grosse’s show that comments on the recent literature.
