Concept:

The ratio of the sum of the values in a particular set to all the values in the set is the mean value, which is the definition of the average.

Average = Sum of Values/ Number of values

Suppose, we have given with n number of values such as x1, x2, x3 ,….., xn. The average or the mean of the given data will be equal to:

Average = (x1+x2+x3+…+xn)/n

Given:

As part of class project, Rekha needs to find the average age of her family members. Rekha writes her family member’s age as follows:

32, 30, 23, 19, 15

Find:

Which of these is the average age of members in Rekha’s family?

Option 1: 15

Option 2: 17

Option 3: 23

Option 4: 32

Solution:

DATA=32, 30, 23, 19, 15

Sum of ages=32+ 30+ 23+ 19+ 15

                           =119

No. of members =5

Mean age=Sum of age/no. of members

                =119/5

                 =23.8

Therefore, average age of Rekha's family=23.8≈23 , so option C
