Per capita income or average income is defined as the total income of the country by total population of the country.


Per capita income is one of the criterion to measure the development of the countries or states.


World Bank uses Per capita income to measure the development of different countries and classified countries as developed,developing or underdeveloped.


Yes,we can say that per capita is a criterion to measure development but we cannot say that per capita is only the true criterion to measure development.


Per capita along with other criterions like literacy rate,net attendence ratio , infant mortality rate gives us the true measure of development .
