In a closed path,

work done = area of the closed path.

= 1/2 x base x height

=1/2 x (V2 - V1) x (P2 - P1)

also the rotation of the closed surface is in anticlockwise therefore work done is negetive for a P-V graph...

answer is (a) -1/2 (P2 - P1) (V2 - V1)

key point : if it was a V-P graph, anticlockwise is positive and clockwise is negetive
