As shown in the figure, AB, BC and CA are sides of a triangle ABC. They are
tangents to a circle with center O at points P, Q and R respectively. If AB = 9cm,
BC = 8 cm, CA = 7 cm. Find AP, PB, QC.

let AP be x

so PB = 9-x

AP = AR = x. ( tangent from the same point)

PB = bq = 9- x

RC = cq= 7 - x

bc= bq. + cq

8 = 9- x + 7-x

8. = |6 -2x

2x = 8

x = 4

AP = AR = 4

PB = bq = 9-x = 9-4 = 5

RC = cq = 7-x = 7-4 =3

so AP = AR = 4cm

PB = bq= 5cm

RC = cq= 3 cm.
