Answer:

This line has been taken from the story The Blossom Tree, as retold by Odds Bodkin.

Explanation:

a) The idea was that the majestic Blossom Tree would have to be chopped and its trunk used as a pillar to support the ceiling of the palace. Since it was a big and strong tree and no other tree in the entire kingdom could replace the cracked pillar, the only way to stop the palace from collapsing was to cut the Blossom Tree.

b) ‘His’ here refers to King Brahmadatta, who was the ruler of Benaras during the olden days.

c) ‘They’ here stands for the breezes. In this story each part of nature has life, including the gentle winds blowing through the palace. When the winds got to know of the king’s thoughts, they conveyed the same information to the birds.

d) The winds told the birds about the king’s plan to have the Blossom Tree cut and its trunk used as a pillar in the palace.
