Yes, evaporation takes place on surface not in the entire liquid so evaporation takes place on surface area. More surface area means more evaporation. For example take a bowl and plate pour half glass of water in both and leave it for 1 to 2 hours in sun you will see that water from plate evaporates quickly than bowl this is because plate have more surface area.
