There is no air in space, but the satellites contain fuel, composed of many strong chemicals. If for some reason, the fuel leaks out, then the sateelite can blast. Also, if it enters the atmosphere of hot celestial bodies like the Sun, the Venus, or even the Earth, it might blast, if the heat-protector shield is broken. That is why unmanned satellites are used for such missions.
