As there occurs more and more ‘condensation of chromatin’ during cell division, there occurs an increase in heterochromatin formation.

The compaction of the chromatin fibers in the form of chromosomes happens during cell division phase in order to increase the possibilities of proper splitting between the chromosomes between the mother and the daughter cells.

This compaction causes tightening of the chromatin that increases the formation of heterochromatin. The heterochromatin is a more compact form of chromatin network.
