Mission Indradhanush. Histroy, Goals, prospects and status.

  • Mission Indradhanush is a health program launched by the Government of NDA during its 1st rule in the year 2014. It was launched then by the Union Health Minister JP NAdda. It is similar to the immunization program launched in the year 1978 (Expanded Programme of Immunization’)
  • The goal of this mission is to 90% full immunization program, reaching the uncovered parts of India to immunize newborn infants and protect them against harmful diseases.  
  • Aimed at reducing the IMR – Infant Mortality Rate in India, which is mainly due to measles, Diptheria and pneumonia, children under the age of 2 are made compulsory to be vaccinated. Initiatives are taken by the PHC’s (Primary Health Centre’s) and health offices, this educated parents to vaccinate their child.
  • As of 2019 report, the coverage percentage has been 85%. The ministry is striving all hard to achieve the target of 90% by 2020.
