1.....

Hearing the news of the demise of his pert, he mourned as if he had been his child. At night he went under the pine tree set up some bamboo tubes in the ground, such as are used before tombs, in which he put fresh flowers.

.

2.....

The daimio rewarded the farmer because he was honest. When he sprinkled a pinch of ash over the withered cherry tree, it sprouted and gave cool shade to the king. But when his neighbour did the same act, the cherry tree didn't blossom.

Answer:

1.Hearing the news of the demise of his pert, he mourned as if he had been his child. At night he went under the pine tree set up some bamboo tubes in the ground, such as are used before tombs, in which he put fresh flowers.

2.The farmer had sprinkled the ash over the withered cherry tree and it blossomed. Daimio was pleased seeing the miracle and he rewarded the farmer. His neighbour poured the ash over the cherry tree, but nothing happened to the tree.

Fine particles from the ash entered the eyes of the daimio and his wife. They began to sneeze and cough.

This spoiled the splendour of the procession and so the neighbour was punished by man of the landlord.
