Given

Ashima sold two coolers for Rs 3990 each.

On selling one cooler she gained 5 per cent and on selling the other she suffered a loss of 5 per cent.

Find out overall gain per cent or loss per cent in whole transaction.

To proof

As given

Ashima sold two coolers for Rs 3990 each.

Let us assume that the cost price of each cooler be x.

CASE FIRST

she gained 5 per cent and on selling the cooler.

5% written in the decimal form.

=\frac{5}{100}

= 0.05

than the equation becomes

3990 = x + 0.05× x

3990 =1.05x

x = \frac{3990}{1.05}

solving the above

x = Rs 3800

CASE SECOND

she suffered a loss of 5 per cent

Than the equation becomes

3990 = x -  0.05 ×x

3990 = 0.95x

x = \frac{3990}{0.95}

solve the above

x = Rs 4200

Total selling price of  two coolers = 2× 3990

                                                       = Rs 7980

Total cost  price of  two coolers  =  4200 +  3800

                                                       = Rs 8000

As selling price is less than the cost price than their exist the loss.

Formula

Loss\ percentage = \frac{loss\times100}{cost price}

loss = cost price -selling price

      = 8000 -  7980

      = Rs 20

put in the above formula

we get

= \frac{20\times100}{8000}

we get

loss percent = 0.25%

Hence proved
