Answer:

let p = cost of the plain

let h = cost of the holiday

Write an equation for each statement

"Ashley sold 4 rolls of plain wrapping paper and 3 rolls of holiday wrapping paper for a total of $68."

4p + 3h = 68...............(1)

"Kristin sold 9 rolls of plain wrapping paper and 2 rolls of holiday wrapping paper for a total of $77."

9p + 2h = 77...............(2)

Multiply, eq (2) by 2 and (2) by 3 ,and Subtract .

8p + 6h = 136

27p + 6h = 231

- - -

19p = 95

p = 95/19

p = $5 for roll of plain paper

Eqn (1) Becomes

4(5) + 3h = 68

20 + 3h = 68

3h = 68 - 20

3h = 48

h = 48/3

h = $16 for holiday paper
