You can solve this question easily by using vectors.

Total displacement = 40i + 30j
R = √40²+30²
R = 50m

Displacement means the shortest distance between initial and final position.

R is the resultant magnitude.

You can even use Pythagoras Theorem.
Just make a triangle and solve!
(B² + P² = H²)
B = base
H = hypotenuse
P = Perpendicular

Distance = 30m + 40m
= 70m

Distance is the total path length.
