if asoka did not gave up war he would not be called as ASHOKA THE GREAT.

he was called so because he was the first monarch in the world to abandon the path of war and violence. the vloodshed in the kalinga war made ashoka very sad and unhappy.

so ashoka became a great follower of buddhism and he also sent his childern to spread buddhism

hey there ^_^

==================

The lethal war with Kalinga transformed the vengeful Emperor Ashoka to a stable and peaceful emperor and he became a patron of Buddhism. ... Nevertheless, his patronage led to the expansion of Buddhism in the Mauryan empire and other kingdoms during his rule, and worldwide from about 250 BCE.
