Ashu's age = x years

Ashu's mother's age = x² years

After 5 years,

Ashu's age = x + 5 years

Ashu's mother's age = x² + 5 years

According to the given condition,

⇒(x²+ 5) = 3(x + 5)

⇒(x²+ 5) = 3x + 15

⇒x² - 3x - 10 = 0

⇒x² - 5x + 2x - 10 = 0 [By Factorisation]

⇒x(x - 5) + 2(x - 5)

⇒(x + 2)(x - 5)

⇒(x + 2) = 0

∴x = -2

⇒(x - 5) = 0

∴x = 5

Since, x (age) can never be negative, we take x  = 5.

Now,

x = 5

∴ x² = 5²

∴ Ashu is 5 years old and her mother is 25 years old.
