Mrs.Veena = y years = 2x years

After Five years
Thus Ashu = x + 5 years
Mrs.Veena = y + 5 years = 2x + 5 years

According to the given condition
3(2x + 5) = x + 5
6x + 15 - x - 5 = 0
5x + 10 = 0
x = -2

Ignoring the negative signs
x = 2
y = 4

Given : Ashu's present age = x years  

His mother Mrs Veena's present age = x² years  

After 5 years,  

Ashu's age will be =  (x + 5) years  

His mother Mrs Veena's age will be  = (x² + 5) years  

A.T.Q

(x² + 5) = 3(x + 5)

(x² + 5) = 3x + 15

x² - 3x -15 + 5

x² - 3x - 10 = 0

x² - 5x + 2x - 10 = 0

[By middle term splitting]

x(x - 5) + 2(x - 5)

(x + 2)(x - 5)

(x + 2) = 0  or  (x - 5) = 0

x = -2  or  x = 5  

Since, x (age) can’t be negative, x ≠ - 2 , so x = 5.

Ashu's present age = x years = 5 years

And His mother Mrs Veena's present age = x² years = 5² = 25 years

Hence, Ashu's present age is 5 years and His mother Mrs Veena's present age is 25 years.
