Simple Past Tense:

Formula: S + 2nd form of verb + Object

Usage:

1. For a completed action in a time before now. Eg. I met her in 2004.
2. For events that were true for some time in the past. Eg. They lived in America for four years.  
3. For a list of completed actions in the past. Eg. Maya came in, put the bag on the couch, and sat down.
4. For habits in the past. eg. When I was a child, I played the piano.
5. To talk about an action in the past that takes place in the middle of another action. Eg. When she arrived, I was reading a book.
6. For past facts. Eg. He did not like carrots before.
