INTRODUCTION-

It is important to begin with a definition of the term. So, talk about what censorship means.

It means controlling free speech when it comes to topics that may be deemed controversial, critical or sensitive.

WHAT DOES IT INCLUDE?

Media censorship applies to all forms of media- print, audio, video, movies- anything that is meant for public consumption.

WHY CENSORSHIP?

Censorship, according to its supporters, is important for a number of reasons:

·        Morally - Maintaining moral values (particularly in films)

·        Politically- Taking care of national interests (News- some army details do not need to be made public)

·        Culturally- Ensuring that the culture is not lost. Disrespectful language/behaviour. (Effect of westernization)

ANY DISADVANTAGES OR PROBLEMS?

Yes.

·        It is a democratic country. What about right to information?

·        Why should things be hidden?

·        It can be misused to cover up political corruption.

HOW CAN A BALANCE BE MAINTAINED?

By laying down guidelines that the authorities, the people and the media agree to.

Need to have extensive discussion on the same.

CONCLUSION

It is a very challenging task to get each of the concerned parties to agree to one set of guidelines.
