Ghandi was making the point that there is enough food and water, shelter, etc. (basic needs) for the needs of every person. There is not, however, enough natural resources to fill the want of people's greed. In order for everyone to have enough, no one can be greedy with their resources or wealth of any kind. If resources are shared equitably, no one would go hungry or thirsty, or be without clothing, shelter or medical care. But Only if people are not greedy.

Need is succinct so it can be satiated, like food, water, clothes and a shelter is the basic and most primary necessity of a human being....Then for different personalities there might be different necessities, for example : if you ask a student his necessity is books but if you ask a beggar he'd ask for a single bread.

But when a human being is lured by the evil of greed, it can destroy his peace of mind because no matter how much does he get he'd never be satisfied, because greed knows no boundaries..He'd want more of what he already has and even doesn't need or has no use..

Hence the quote of mahatma gandhi is perfect.
