INTRODUCTION:
(Relate the topic to what you see around you or hear in the news.)
The modern era is one of technological advancements and increasing environmental problems. Progress has been made at the expense of nature, which ultimately causes greater problems for mankind.
WHAT IS THE MAIN ISSUE :
(Make the connection between the problems and nature.)
**It is a known fact that global warming poses a threat to nature. With higher temperatures, the entire balance in nature has changed. The weather has now become unpredictable, causing a lot of natural disasters like drought and floods.**Many species are endangered, causing a shift in the ecological balance. A small example is that of the common vulture. Being carnivorous birds, they feed on the dead carcass of animals. Now however, since the vulture population has decreased, the meat of dead animals keeps lying around, thus serving as a safe haven for infections. Also, rotting meat contaminates the ground water, thus triggering another set of infections. This is just one example. There are many more such cases, which proves that nature has assigned specific roles to the beings. When one link goes missing, the entire system gets upset.
**Unchecked mining, deforestation and construction has also disturbed the natural settings. These factors are known to cause landslides and weakening of the hills, which has led to the death of many humans, as is repetitively seen in the hilly districts of Uttrakhand.
WHAT CAN BE DONE:
Since it is clear that mankind cannot survive without help from nature, it is necessary to take steps to save nature. Taking note of this issue, the Indian government has already initiated a mass cleaning program, in the hope that the citizens will wake up to the issue of pollution. There are many ways of saving nature that can be done at the individual level. For instance, one can plant one tree each year and take care of it. It is also possible to ensure that natural resources or things sourced from nature (like paper) are not wasted. Additionally, to decrease vehicular traffic, one can always opt for public transportation or carpools or even walk (in case of short distances). Each step, however tiny it may seem, is helpful.
CONCLUSION:
Though people in general are aware of the consequences of harming the nature, most of them do not think about it seriously. All that needs to be done is to regularly remind people about their collective responsibility towards the nation and the future.
