Answer:

A is 4 years older than B who is twice as old as C. If the total of the ages of A, B and C be 40, the how old is B?

Let the age of C = x then

Age of B = 2x

Age of A = 2x +4

A+B+C = x+2x+2x + 4 =40

i.e. 5x + 4 = 40

5x = 40–4 = 36

x = 36/5

Age of B =(36/5)2 =72/5

Age of A = (72/5) +4=92/5

Age of C = 36/5

Age of (A+B+C) = (92/5)+(72/5)+(36/5)

= 200/5 = 40
