Education was imparted from the gurukuls .The residence of the guru is called as the gurukul.The gurukul were often located in the outskirt of the city or in the forest .The students lived there.The student were required to do the household chores for his teacher .He had to get up early in the morning ,have a bath and chant vedic mandras .The main subjects that teached was vedas ,puranas ,mathematics, military science, grammar ,ethics ,logic .After the completion of education at the age of 25 the stident should give a guru dakshina - a gift to the teacher.
