Students from primary classes were excited as they boarded the school bus at 9.00 AM on a bright morning for yet another educational trip. This time it was a delightful journey to cake land; Monginis Cake Factory.
As the students from classes I to V reached the factory, they were explained about the general and safety instructions by the factory personnel and were told to carefully follow the instructions. As hygiene is the most important factor in food processing and edible product manufacturing industry, they were made to wear caps to avoid hair fall and maintain proper distance from assembly line while stopping at work stations to observe each stage of production.
The Manager of the factory explained to them, the various stages of production and the entire baking process. The students listened in awe as they learnt about how cakes are baked; different machines used at various stages, varying sizes and shapes of moulds. They saw large machines kneading the dough, rolling them and cutting in various shapes and sizes. Then they saw the hot ovens that baked them to perfection. The factory had the yummy odour of cake that was mouth-watering. The ‘icing on the cake’ is indeed the special part of cake-making. The students loved the decorations on the cake created by an experienced cake decorator and pastry chef. They used various edible decorations like sugar bottle moulds, sugar frames, silver sugar balls, petal blossom veiners, leaf veiners and amazing butter creams that flowed from nozzles as they created magic on the cake.
Finally, they came to the end of the assembly line. They were excited to eat the cakes, that were served to them by the Monginis team. They relished the yummy cakes and refreshments. They returned to the school with enough knowledge about baking and making a cake. We look forward to future patisserie chefs from GIIS Surat campus.
