Assertion (A) is true and Reason (R) is false

  • Ammonia is a base which is weak in nature. If we see the structure of ammonia it has a lone pair of electron. Hence, it is a Lewis base or alkaline in nature because it can easily accept a proton. Therefore, assertion is true.
  • As stated above ammonia is an alkali. So, if we will test it with a blue litmus paper there will be no results as blue litmus paper helps to identify the acidic nature not basic. In order to check the basic nature we use red litmus paper for identification.
  • After testing red litmus paper on ammonia solution it can observed it changes into blue colour. Hence, Reason (R) : Ammonia solution turb blue litmus paper red is incorrect
