Assertion (A): C is the mid-point of PQ, if P is (4,x), C is (y, -1) and Q is (-2,4), then x and y respectively are -6 and 1. Reason (R): The mid-point of the line segment joining the points P(x1, y1) and Q(x2, y2) (x1+x2/2,y1+y2/2)

Given: Assertion (A): C is the mid-point of PQ, if P is (4,x), C is (y, -1) and Q is (-2,4), then x and y respectively are -6 and 1.

Reason (R): The mid-point of the line segment joining the points P(x1, y1) and Q(x2, y2) (x1+x2/2,y1+y2/2)

To Find: Correct option

Solution:

Assertion (A): C is the mid-point of PQ, if P is (4,x), C is (y, -1) and Q is (-2,4), then x and y respectively are -6 and 1.

C is the mid-point of PQ

=> y  = ( 4 - 2) /2   , - 1 = ( x + 4)/2

=> y = 1  ,   x = - 6

x and y respectively are -6 and 1.

Hence Assertion is correct

Reason (R): The mid-point of the line segment joining the points P(x1, y1) and Q(x2, y2) is (x1+x2/2,y1+y2/2)

Yes , Reason is true and correct explanation for Assertion

Assertion (A) and Reason (R) both are correct and reason is the correct Explanation of assertion
