  • The word 'chromatography', composed of the Greek term 'Khroma' means colour and 'graphein' meaning to draw a graph, was coined by the Russian botanist M.S.Tswett (1906), to describe the process of separating mixtures of plant pigments such as chlorophylls, β-carotene, xanthophylls etc.
