Both Assertion and Reason are true but Reason is not the correct explanation of Assertion.

Hydrochloric acid present in the stomach helps for the action of the enzyme pepsin on the food. Pepsin requires an acidic medium for acting upon the food and the stomach where the hydrochloric acid is released forms the perfect environment for the action to take place.

Similarly, pancreatic juices and other enzymes can only act in a basic medium. The food from the stomach which is received by the small intestine is acidic in nature. The bile juice helps to make the medium alkaline for the action of other enzymes and juices. Also, bile helps for the emulsification of fat globules for easy action by lipase.

From this, we can infer that both the statements are true but are not related to each other. henceforth, both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.
