Given : Assertion (A): If the distance between the point (4, p) and (1, 0) is 5, then the value of p is 4.

Reason (R): The point which divides the line segment joining the points (7, – 6) and (3, 4) in ratio 1 : 2 internally lies in the fourth quadrant.

To Find : Correct option

Solution:

Assertion (A): If the distance between the point (4, p) and (1, 0) is 5, then the value of p is 4.

=> ( 4 - 1)² + (p - 0)² = 5²

=> 3² + p² = 25

=> p² = 16

=> p  = ±4

value of p is 4.  is not always True

as p can be - 4 also

Hence Assertion is not Correct

Reason (R): The point which divides the line segment joining the points (7, – 6) and (3, 4) in ratio 1 : 2 internally lies in the fourth quadrant.

(1 * 3 + 2 * 7)/(1 + 2)  , ( 1 * 4 + 2(-6))/(1 + 2)

= 17/3 , -8/3

Point lies in fourth Quadrant

Reason is Correct

Assertion is Incorrect  and Reason is correct
