Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.
Answer: Option (a)
Explanation:
Gandhiji was a crusader for Indian ethnicity and Hindu-Muslim brotherhood. On March 29, 1918, he chaired the prestigious Hindu Sahitya Sammelan in Indore. It is there that he first asserted that Hindi should be given the status of the country's national language as Hindustani would be the ideal Language of communication between the diverse communities in India.
In order to support his proposition Gandhiji referred to the ‘Ganga-Jamuni’ culture of Hindi. Hundustani, he said was a blend of Urdu and Sanskrit borrowings and was spoken and well understood by both Hindus and Muslims. It was not fully Sanskritized nor was it totally Persian hence it formed the exact medium to unify Hindus and Muslims and the people of the North and the South.
