Assertion is false and Reason is true.

  • It's not a necessary condition that rainbows can only be formed during rainfall. For rainbow formation only a little amount of moisture and sun shining along the edges of cloud is required. Hence, though rainbow formation can occur during rainfall and sunshine but it's not completely true. So, assertion is false.
  • Rainbow formation is due to dispersion of light and internal reflections. When sunlight reaches the water droplet it bends down. Inside the droplets multiple reflections take place and finally dispersion of colours from the drop occurs. Hence, reason is true.
