Assertion: A ray incident along normal to the mirror retrace its path.
Reason: In reflection, angle of incidence is always equal to angle of reflection.
(A) Both assertion and reason are true, and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.
(B) Both assertion and reason are true, but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.
(C) Assertion is true but reason is false.

Answer:

B

Explanation:

Both assertion & reason are true, & reason is the correct explanation of assertion, because if a incident ray makes 0° angle with the normal (by 2nd law of reflection i.e. angle of incidence = angle of reflection), the reflected ray should also make 0° angle with normal, thus it also retraces the path..

Thank you..

Hope it helps...

(A) Both assertion and reason are true, and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.

Explanation:

Reflection is a particle property of light.

  • When a ray of light approaches a smooth polished surface and the light ray bounces back, it is termed as reflection of light.
  • The ray of light that is incident on the surface is called incident ray and the ray that bounces off is called reflected ray.
  • A normal is drawn perpendicular to the surface at the point of incidence and the angle made by incident ray with that normal is called angle of incidence.
  • Similarly, the angle made by reflected ray with the normal is called angle of reflection.
  • According to law of reflection, for every reflection to take place, the angle of reflection must be equal to angle of incidence.

Here in this case, the incident ray is along the normal which means that the angle of incidence is zero, therefore the angle of reflection is also zero and so, the ray traces back itself.
