Both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is correct explaination of assertion.

  • A chemical change occurs when there's a change in whole chemical structure of substance and not just the physical properties.
  • So in case of rusting of iron there's a formation of iron oxide in presence of either oxygen or water vapour. Hence, rusting of iron is a chemical change so given assertion is true.
  • During this slow process there is a formation of new substance called iron oxide because of water vapour or atmospheric oxygen overtime. Hence, rusting is a slow process in which the surface of iron is spoiled due to the action of oxygen and water on it.
  • Therefore, both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is correct explaination of assertion.
