Both (A) and (R) are true and (R) is the right explanation of (A)

  • Sodium hydrogen carbonate is a basic salt in nature. Since, the stomach produces Hydrochloric acid, NaHCO_{3} which is acidic in nature, it helps to neutralize acidity
  • Acid + Base = Salt + Water
  • Hence, since NaHCO_{3} is a mild non-corrosive basic salt it can be used as an ingredient in the antacids.
