Assertion(A) : The centre of curvature is not a part of the mirror. It lies outside its reflecting surface.

Reason (R) : The reflecting surface of a spherical mirror forms a part of a sphere. This sphere has a centre.

Both A and R are correct and Reason is the correct explaination of assertion.

But why?

  • First of all, the centre of curvature lies on the principal Axis outside the mirror. So, it does not lie on the reflecting surface of the mirror.

  • Again, the mirror has been obtained by cutting a part of a sphere. Hence, the reflecting surface is actually a part of that sphere.

  • That sphere has a centre and this centre corresponds to the centre of curvature of the mirror.
