The assertion is false whereas the reason is also false.

Why is the assertion and reason false?

  • The assertion is false because the water of crystallization gives shape as well as colour to the crystals.
  • As soon as the water is lost, that is water of crystallization is lost, the salts lose their shape as well as their colour.
  • For example, Ferrous sulphate crystals are formed by seven water molecules, as soon as the water will be removed from them, they will lose their shape and colour.
  • The reason is false because ferrous sulphate has seven water molecules but the crystals are light green in colour.
