Assertion (A) : Virtual images are always erect

Reason (R) : Virtual images are formed by diverging lenses only.

  • Assertion is true , but reason is false.

But why ??

  • First of all, when object is kept in erect position, virtual images will be always erect. In that case , magnification will always be positive. So, Assertion is true.

  • However, both convex and concave lens can form virtual image. So, both converging and diverging lens can produce it. So, reason is false.

  • Please remember that : virtual images are those images that form behind the mirror or lens and cannot be projected on screen.
