Common salt when kept open, absorbs moisture as it contains magnesium chloride (MgCl2) which is deliquescent in nature. It absorbs moisture when exposed to air and hence form magnesium chloride hexahydrate ( MgCl2.6H2O) (hexa meaning "6" and hydrate meaning "water") .

Also sodium chloride( main common salt) being deliquescent in nature absorbs moisture and presence of impurities of calsium chloride being hygroscopic in nature also absorbs moisture
