The assertion and reason both are correct but the Reason is not the correct explanation of the Assertion.

  • Autotrophs are those who have the capability of producing their own food by the process of photosynthesis.
  • Photosynthesis is the chemical process of producing food which is glucose with the help of sunlight.
  • Plants take carbon dioxide and water from the environment which is converted to glucose with the action of sunlight.
  • The reason states green plants in terrestrial ecosystems can capture 1% of the energy of sunlight that falls on their leaves and transform it into food energy by the process of photosynthesis.
  • The reason does explain why plants are referred to as autotrophs.
