Assertion- Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc.


Reason- Alloy is a homogeneous mixture of two or more metals or a metal and a non-

metal

(i) If both A and R are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the Assertion.

(ii) If both A and R are true and the reason is not the correct explanation of the Assertion.

(iii) If A is true but R is false.

(iv)If A is false but R is true.

(ii) If both A and R are true and the reason is not the correct explanation of the Assertion.

  • The reason and assertion by themselves are correct and if the Assertion was just 'Brass is an alloy' then, "(i) If both A and R are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the Assertion." would have been the correct choice.
  • However, since the Assertion is 'Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc', the reason will not be the explanation of it. It is so since the reason explains alloys in general but is not specific to Brass.
