When carbon is exposed to oxygen and is burned in the air, the carbon reacts with the oxygen present in the air and form carbon dioxide which is an acidic oxide.

When this acidic oxide of carbon that is carbon dioxide is dissolved in H2O that is water, it gets converted into an acid called carbonic acid( H2CO3).

Metal forms basic oxides and non-metal forms acidic oxides.
