Harmful chemicals accumulates progressively at each trophical level. Man is the apex (top) of all food chains. Hence, the concentration of harmful chemicals is more in human beings. This phenomenon involved is known as biomagnification.

Biomagnification is basically the accumulation of chemicals by organisms from water and food. It's exposure results in a concentration which is greater than what would have been the expected resulted from water exposure, and thus concentration is greater than wht is expected from the equilibrium.
