Assertion is false but reason is true.

  • The aqueous solution of sodium chloride will contain four types of ions namely hydrogen ions and sodium ions which will be positively charged and hydroxyl ions and chloride ion which will be negatively charged.
  • Positively charged ions known as cations are always attracted to negative electrode cathode. On the other hand, negatively charged ions known as anions are always attracted to positive electrode anode.
  • Thus, hydrogen ions will be produced at cathode and chlorine gas will be produced at anode.
