Answer:assertion is wrong but reason is correct

Explanation:reason is alright but the assertion should be written as' gun moves in opposite direction of the bullet's motion '.

The correct answer is : Assertion is false but the reason is correct.

  • When a bullet is fired from the gun, then the bullet marches in the forward direction.
  • As per Newton's third law of motion, every action will have an equal as well as the opposite reaction
  • As the bullet marches forward, the gun will recoil in the backwards direction, i.e. in the direction opposite to that of the bullet.
  • Thus, the assertion statement is not true,
  • The total momentum of this system is conserved. Bullet will have more velocity as its mass is less while the gun has more mass, so it will have less velocity such that the momentum will be conserved.
