Both assertion and reason are true but the reason is not correct explaination of assertion.

Explanation:

Assertion:

* Transpiration is the process of evaporation through leaf stomata.

* When water is lost from leaf stomata certain amount of heat is also lost with it.

* Thus it cool off the plant and also helps in further process of transportation.

Reason:

* When water is lost through transpiration process the concentration of solutes inside th vessel increases.

* This increase in concentration of solute causes increase in osmotic pressure which ultimately helps in transportation of water upwards in xylem.
