Assertion and Reasoning

Explanation:

  • Making anti-viral medicine is harder than making anti-bacterial medicines and it does not take hundreds of years to prepare antiviral drugs. Assertion is true and reason is false.
  • Antiviral medicines are harder to make compared to antibacterial  (also termed antibiotics). Viruses have their biochemical mechanism. Viruses do not possess a mechanism of action themselves, and it uses the host's cell as their machinery.
  • As bacteria enter the host body. Antibiotics are taken as a medicine to inhibit the bacteria. Bacteria have their metabolic pathway. So, antibiotics destroy that pathway. Without its metabolic pathway, the bacteria cannot form a cell wall. As a result, the bacteria cannot survive in the host body.
  • When the virus infects the host cell. Viruses use the host cell for their metabolism and their survival.  It is difficult to develop safe and effective antiviral drugs because viruses replicate using host cells.
  • It makes it difficult to find drug targets that will interfere with the virus without harming the cells of the host organism. So, antiviral medicines may also work against the host cell. Until the target is achieved antiviral drugs are tested in clinical trials. As a result, antiviral medicines are more difficult than making antibacterial medicines.
