Answer:

Assertion is correct and the reason is the correct explanation to the assertion.

Screw Gauge:

➛ It is an instrument used for measuring the diameter or thickness of very thin wires or similar objects.

Its accuracy is upto 0.001 cm or 0.01 mm and is commonly called micrometre screw gauge.

Essential parts of screw gauge:

  • U-frame
  • Nut and screw
  • Circular scale or thimble scale
  • Sleeves cylinder
  • Base line
  • Ratchet

To measure the diameter of wire by using screw gauge:

  • Calculate the least count of screw gauge.

  • Calculate the zero error, if any.

  • Place the given wire in between stud A and movable screw B and turn the ratchet in clockwise direction, till it becomes free.

  • Note the main scale reading and then note the circular scale reading.

  • Multiply the circular scale reading with least count, then add it to the main scale reading.

  • After that we will get observed reading.

  • If there is any error subtract it, from the observed reading.

  • Hence, we will obtain the accurate reading by using screw gauge.
