Answer: The assertion and reason are correct, Silver articles become black after a period of time when exposed to air and silver is not a very reactive metal.

However, the reason does not explain the assertion.

• Silver when dipped in copper sulphate solution shows no reaction. This is because Silver does not displace Copper and is thereby less reactive than it. This proves that Silver is less reactive by nature
• Silver also does not shows any reaction with water and air but it gets tarnished over a period of time when exposed to sulphur.
