(A) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A

  • Bond between F-F is weaker because of very huge electronic repulsion between them. The mutual attraction and the bond strength between the two is diminished by strong inter electronic repulsion. This is why bond between F-F is weaker than between Cl-Cl.
  • Since, Flourine lies on top of Chlorine atom in 17th group so it has a smaller size because atomic size increases along the group. So flourine will be smaller.
  • It is because of very small size why flourine faces huge inter electronic repulsion. Hence, Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A .
